Preview, activate, deactivate, and keep a project from depending on fifty families you installed in 2019. Auto-activation when you open a file is the feature that pays for itself the first time a package opens with the right weights.
The system font menu is a poor database. Search is bad, duplicates pile up, and a missing weight gets silently replaced. I shipped a PDF with a substituted italic once. The client noticed before I did. A manager would not have made me careful, but it would have made the missing file obvious.
Who should skip font management software
Writers using a default stack do not need RightFont. Install the one family you are allowed to use and stop.
